Scaptomyza flava larval leaf consumption in Arabidopsis mutants varies with the plants’ defensive potential. Mean leaf area mined (LAM) by S. flava larvae reared in Arabidopsis mutants relative to LAM by larvae reared in wild-type (WT; Col-0) plants. Larvae that had just reached the second instar were transferred from WT nurse plants to experimental and control plants and allowed to feed for 48 hours. Error bars represent standard error of the mean. Letters indicate a statistically significant difference (one-way ANOVA with post hoc Tukey’s HSD tests; P < 0.05) between treatments (N = 15–20 plants per treatment).
