The portion of the top leaflet that interacts with the NP but is not in direct contact with the NP is shown in blue. ρ is the radius of the rim of the bilayer. θ is the wrapping angle and 0 ≤ αθ. r, used in Eq. (10), is the distance between an arbitrary point in the NP and the top leaflet of the bilayer. l(α, ρ) is the distance between the center of the NP and a point within the rim of the top leaflet of the bilayer and is given by Eq.
