MiMsp40 transgenic and WT (Col-0) Arabidopsis plants were inoculated with 1 μM elf18. Callose (white dots) was visualized (A) and quantified (B) 24 h after infiltration by staining with aniline blue. (C) Expression of plant defence genes. The mRNA expression levels of FRK1, PAD4, WRKY33, WRKY29 and CYP81F2 were measured by qPCR in MiMsp40 transgenic and WT plants treated with 1 μM elf18. Arabidopsis UBP22 was used as an internal control to normalize the gene expression level. Changes in gene expression were calculated using the 2^−△△CT method; the data are presented as averages of three independent biological experiments, each consisting of three technical replicates.
