Sartan treatment reduces cortical lesion volume when administered up to 6 h after brain injury. (A and B) Sartan was administered 1 h after injury and assessed at 1 day post-injury. Lower doses of candesartan (0.1 or 0.5 mg/kg) reduced the lesion volume compared to vehicle alone; this neurorestorative effect was not observed at a higher dose (1 mg/kg). (B) Higher (10 mg/kg) and lower (1 mg/kg) doses of telmisartan reduced the lesion volume compared to vehicle administration. (C and D) Candesartan (0.1 mg/kg) or telmisartan (1 mg/kg) reduced the lesion volume when administered at 1, 3 or 6 h after injury as determined at 1 day post-injury.
