Primary cultures of cystic fibrosis (CF) alveolar macrophages (AMs) express high levels of X-box–binding protein-1 mRNA splicing (XBP-1s). Non-CF and CF AMs were stimulated for 6 hours with 100 ng/ml LPS from Pseudomonas aeruginosa. Quantitative reverse transcriptase polymerase chain reaction was used to determine the mRNA levels of XBP-1s. Data are expressed as fold change relative to 18S mRNA and represent mean ± SD from six independent experiments.
