The p-values were derived from Kruskal Wallis test for between three group comparisons (DFU vs. DMC vs. HC) and the Mann–Whitney U test for two group comparisons (DFU vs. DMC group). Categorical variables were compared between groups using Fishers exact test. Diabetes duration indicates fractions of years diagnosed with type 2 diabetes mellitus
