4-PBA attenuates ischemia-reperfusion injury in the skin flap of rats. Skin flap tissue sections from rats undergoing ischemia-reperfusion were stained with hematoxylin and eosin (magnification, ×100). Significant swelling and increased numbers of inflammatory cells were detected in the tissue space of the NC group rats; however, these characteristics were absent from the control group, and attenuated in the 4-PBA group rats. Tissue sections were observed 0, 1, 6, 12, and 24 h following ischemia-reperfusion. NC, negative control; 4-PBA, 4-phenylbutyrate.
