Cell culture conditions affect the tumor cell resistance to irradiation, chemotherapy and molecular therapeutics. Clonogenic cell survival data of a variety of human carcinoma cell lines treated with different clinically applied therapeutics as examples for anticipated results. Two (2D)- or three (3D)-dimensionally grown FaDu squamous cell carcinoma, A549 lung carcinoma and DLD1 colorectal carcinoma cells were treated either with cisplatin (CDDP), X-rays (4 Gy single dose) or the anti-EGFR antibody cetuximab. Images illustrate characteristic growth of cell colonies in 2D and 3D. Data show mean ± SD (n=3; t-test; ^*P<0.05, ^**P<0.01).
