For example, with a total kidney volume of 2000 mL and initial GFR of 60 mL/min, it should be assumed that dialysis will be required (approx. eGFR <10 mL/min) within approximately 10 years. Calculation is based on cohort data (8) and has not been validated for clinical practice. More accurate risk estimates may be possible in the future, based on improved algorithms.
