The first bar (R) represents a reference conducted in the absence of test compounds whereas the next three bars depict samples in the presence of the known scavenger ascorbic acid (AA), compound 8, and compound 10 (all at 20 µM). The arrows indicate the percentage of DPPH scavenged by the test compound, calculated as described under Materials and Methods.
