The RLD method for rapid determination of luminescence decay time. The indicator (usually a metal‐ligand complex with a relatively long decay time is first photoexcited until steady‐state fluorescence is reached. The LED is then turned off, and emission intensity is integrated over areas A 1 and A 2. Note that any short‐lived background luminescence is suppressed by this method.
