The numbers represent the number of rare codons (AGG) inserted immediately after the start codon. (B) Comparison of total fatty acids produced in E. coli containing the modified construct (4Z8G4I1T) and controls (4Z4G4I4T, ZGIT and WT) shown in Fig. 5A. (C) Yields of fatty acids with 14 (C14), 16 (C16) and 18 (C18) carbons were determined and compared among WT E. coli and the strains harboring the plasmids mentioned in 5A.
