Effects of nasal heat shock protein (HSP)60 on cytokine production in splenocytes. Apolipoprotein E (ApoE)−/− mice were administered phosphate‐buffered saline (PBS) or HSP60 nasally for 5 days; untreated or PBS‐treated mice were considered controls. Splenocytes collected from mice that were killed 4 and 14 days after the final nasal treatment, and at 16 and 24 weeks of age were stimulated with ConA in vitro for 72 h. Interferon (IFN)‐γ, interleukin (IL)‐4, IL‐17, transforming growth factor (TGF)‐β and IL‐10 production in the supernatants was measured by enzyme‐linked immunosorbent assay (ELISA).
