Odds ratios, with 95% confidence intervals (CI) comparing the probability of mortality within 24 hours of an abnormal mental status score to the probability of mortality within 24 hours of a normal mental status score (“Reference”). All calculations control for clustering of observations within the same admission. All odds ratios were significant at P<0.001.

Abbreviations: AVPU, Alert-Voice-Pain-Unresponsive; GCS, Glascow Coma Scale; RASS, Richmond Agitation Sedation Scale; n, number of observations.
