Schematic of the glymphatic pathway in rodent brain. Para-arterial inflow of cerebrospinal fluid (CSF) enters the brain tissue faciliated by astrocytic AQP4 water channels. The CSF mixes with the interstitial fluid (ISF) and propels the waste products of neuronal metabolism into the para-venous space, from which they are directed into cervical lymphatic vessels and ultimately returned to the general circulation for clearance by the liver.
