See Fig. 9 for explanation of the experimental groups. Total RNA extracted from F0 to F3 juveniles, reared under common garden conditions, was analyzed for expression of (A) hsp70 and (B) hmgb1 genes by qPCR assay. At each generation, the expression of hsp70 or hmgb1 gene in the control group was set at 1.0 and all other data points were normalized accordingly using the equation of Pfaffl et al. (2002)⁵². The actin gene was used as an internal control. Error bars represent the standard errors of three biological replicates. Significant differences between the treatment and control at respective generation are indicated by *(P < 0.05), **(P < 0.01).
