Principle of transverse conductivity sensing. (A) As DNA is driven through the nanopore, the base pairs modulate the electric field between the transverse electrodes. Pores are often fabricated in SiN, and the metal electrodes are typically gold. (B) Recently, nanopore devices are formed in graphene which acts as both the nanopore substrate and electrode.
