F. tularensis LVS catalase restricts immune function by impairing TRPM2 channel activity. Francisella scavenges H2O2 within the macrophage cytosol limiting TRPM2 activity. In the absence of catalase, intracellular H2O2 increases in response to infection activating the redox-sensitive TRPM2 channel facilitating macrophage Ca2+-dependent signaling, actin rearrangement, and IL-6 production.
