(A) CBA/N mice were infected with 1.0×106 CFUs of TIGR4 or JEN11. After 12 and 24 hrs post infection, H&E stained lung section were analyzed for markers of leukocytes in alveoli and bronchi as a marker inflammation and thickening of alveolar septa by intrusion of blood as a marker of congestion. (B) After 6, 12, and 24 hrs post infection, lung sections were analyzed and designated inflammation scores from CBA/N mice infected with 1.0×106 CFUs of TIGR4 or JEN11 (*P=0.0248 for 12 hrs). (C) After 6, 12, and 24 hrs post infection, lung sections were analyzed for number of infected lung lobes from CBA/N mice infected with 1.0×106 CFUs of TIGR4 or JEN11 (*P=0.0248 for 12 hrs). (D) After 24 hrs post infection, alveolar congestion of CBA/N mice infected with 1.0×106 CFUs of TIGR4 or JEN11 were analyzed (*P=0.0397). The bars indicate average scores with standard error of the mean. These data are representative of three independent experiments.
