Effect of Si pretreatment on short-term Mn uptake and translocation. Seedlings (27-d-old) of the WT were grown in a nutrient solution with (+Si) or without (-Si) 1mM Si. After 3 d, the seedlings were exposed to a nutrient solution containing 5 µM Mn labelled with ⁵⁴Mn and 0 (--, +-Si) or 1mM (-+, ++) of silicic acid for up to 180min.
