FIG. 7.

Surface pressure vs. surface area isotherms of (a) pure DPPC monolayers, (b) DPPC monolayers after exposure to particles, (c) pure Infasurf® films, and (d) Infasurf® films after exposure to aerosols in the lung relevant surface pressure range. Particle deposition was performed during the first expansion cycle. Surfactant films were compressed and expanded at a speed of 150 mm/min with a surface area change of about 25 cm2 (between surface areas of 210 cm2 and 185 cm2 for DPPC, and 198 cm2 and 124 cm2 for Infasurf® films). Error bars represent the standard deviation.
