Gene expression in pe19 deletion mutant and complemented strains. RNA was extracted from cultures of M. tuberculosis WT, Δpe19, Δpe19 pMVpe19, ΔpstA1, ΔpstA1 Δpe19, and ΔpstA1 Δpe19 pMVpe19 strains grown to mid-exponential phase (OD₆₀₀ of 0.5) in P_i-rich 7H9 medium. The abundance of pe19 (A) and udgA, mgtA, and rv0784 (B) transcripts relative to that of sigA was determined by real-time quantitative RT-PCR.
