Serotonergic system dysregulation and behaviors. (a) Homozygous insertional mutations in 5-HT2A and 5-HT7 receptors significantly reduced body wall contractions in third-instar larvae. However, homozygous insertional mutation in 5-HT biosynthesis rate-limiting enzyme, tryptophan hydroxylase (Trh), did not have a significant effect on body wall contraction in comparison to w1118 group. (b) Homozygous insertional mutation in 5-HT2A and 5-HT7 receptors significantly reduced mouth hook movements in third-instar larvae. However, 5-HT2A receptor knockdown and homozygous Trh mutant larvae did not show noticeable effect on mouth hook movements. Student's t-test was performed to carry out comparison between groups. Data presented as mean ± SEM.
