Astrocyte activation by chronic electromagnetic radiation exposure. Compared to control (A), immunoreactivity to glial fibrillary acidic protein (GFAP), a marker of reactive astrocyte, increased in radiated animals (B). Among the hippocampal subregions GFAP immunoreactivity distinctively increased in CA1 area rather than dentate gyrus.
