The dashed lines, beginning at 10 days, indicate the portion of the microcosm experiment where lactate was present to stimulate reducing environment. Errors represent standard deviations between duplicate microcosms, some of which are smaller than the size of symbols used. For clarity, in subplot (B), dissolved Fe concentrations from nitrate-Fe(II) treatment were plotted on the primary y-axis, whereas those from the control and nitrate-only treatment were plotted on the secondary y-axis.
