(i) A polydimethylsiloxane (PDMS) stamp is inked with octadecanethiol, (ii) printed onto the gold surface, (iii) the intervening regions are passivated with a tri(ethylene glycol) diluent, (iv) matrix protein is physisorbed to hydrophobic regions, (v) cells are captured specifically to protein coated islands.
