Different levels of fishing intensity F are represented by each line. The figure shows that multiple steady states are possible, although as fishing mortality increases, the steady state abundance decreases. Notice that the relative effect of F on the steady state decreases as F increases because F is a coefficient in an exponential function (Table 1; Appendix S2).
