Direct interaction of K-Ras catalytic domain with membrane. Shown are contacts of CD residues with bilayer lipids during NormK-Ras (A), NocmapK-Ras (B), and PalmK-Ras simulations (C). Based on the residues that are within 5 Å of the membrane, the data show that the CD made direct contact with the membrane within the simulations timescale in 8/10 of the NormK-Ras and 3/3 of the NocmapK-Ras runs. In (A) and (B), the initial 100 ns data was omitted as equilibration phase while (C) shows that even a K-Ras variant carrying a second lipid modification did not achieve significant CD-bilayer interaction within 100 ns.
