Turnover of myosin and F-actin lowers the real parts of eigenvalues. Dispersion relations (three branches) show eigenvalues as functions of the wave number q. Dots mark the wavenumbers of modes which are consistent with the periodicity of the ring. The growth rate λ is in s−1. For κa = κm = 0.001 s−1 some modes are still unstable, for higher turnover, κa = κm = 0.002 s−1, all modes are stable.
