Significant decrease in gene expression in mesenchymal stem cells (MSCs) obtained from either the femur or the iliac crest using different harvest techniques with the increasing passage number. Expression of genes in MSCs cultured under control conditions is presented in (A), expression of genes under osteogenic-inducing conditions is shown in (B). Data are normalized to gene expression level at passage 1 (=100%). Data are presented as the mean values and standard error of mean (SEM). Gene expression at passage 6 (passage 3 for MSCs from iliac crest aspirates) was compared to gene expression at culture passage 1 for statistical evaluation.
