Proposed mechanism for homolytic cleavage of H2O2 via surface-catalyzed reaction with silica nanoparticle surface. Surface catalysis leads to formation of two hydroxyl radicals (HO). The reaction is initiated by the partial positive charge on the central silicon atom due to the withdrawing effect of the attached oxygen atoms.
