Effects of high-fat diet on chemokine and neuropeptide expression. Ingestion of a HFD for 5 days: (A) increased the expression of endogenous CXCL12 and its receptors, CXCR4 and CXCR7, in the hypothalamic paraventricular nucleus (PVN), as well as expression of the orexigenic neuropeptides, encephalin (ENK) and galanin (GAL); (B) increased the expression of CXCL12 and its receptors in the perifornical lateral hypothalamus (PFLH), as well as expression of the orexigenic neuropeptides, orexin (OX) and melanin-concentrating hormone (MCH); and (C) had no effect on CXCL12, CXCR4, or CXCR7 mRNA levels in the arcuate nucleus (ARC), where it reduced expression of the orexigenic, neuropeptide Y (NPY).
