Alizarin red was used to stain for calcium ions and picrosirius red used to stain collagen. (B) Alizarin red staining of polyHIPEs cultured in growth media through 2 weeks. All polyHIPEs stained positive for calcium after two weeks, indicating the deposition of calcium from the media.
