The members of the NF-κB family. (A) NF-κB subunits each contain a Rel homology domain (RHD) for dimerization and DNA binding. p65 (RelA), c-Rel, and RelB bear transcriptional activation domains (TAD). (B) The 5 NF-κB monomers can associate to 15 potential dimers. Of these, nine can bind DNA and activate gene transcription (light gray), three (the p50 or p52 only containing dimers) bind DNA but do not activate transcription (medium gray), and three do not bind DNA (dark gray).
