Individual differences in negative urgency and within-day changes in negative affect prior to and following: a) binge eating (n = 34), or b) purging (n = 30) episodes. Negative urgency was examined as a continuous variable and is plotted according to 2 standard deviations above (‘high’) or below (‘low’) the mean score. To ease the visual presentation of results, data are plotted for the 4 hours prior to or following the binge eating or purging episode (i.e., episode occurred at hour = 0); however, all momentary negative affect ratings that occurred on the day of the binge or purge episode were included in statistical analyses, up until the occurrence of a second binge eating or purging episode on the same day.
