Experimental apparatus used in experiment 1. This figure does not show the black mesh barriers that divided the top of each ramp and that were used in all phases of the experiment. The mesh barriers replaced the clear Lexan barriers that are depicted here before testing began. When the capsule placed on the actor’s side of the mesh barrier was dislodged, it rolled down the ramp towards the actor. When the reward on the recipient’s side of the mesh barrier was dislodged through the mesh, it rolled down the ramp towards the opposite enclosure. The actor and recipient were 2.74 m apart and could see each other and the distribution of rewards.
