Table 3. Women’s lifestyle modifications to prevent recurrences of BV.

Lifestyle modifications to prevent recurrences
Changes in sexual practices & hygiene . . .I make sure nothing goes anywhere near the area like I’m so conchi [sic ‘conscientious’] about. . .nothings touching that unless it’s fully washed and clean and it’s supposed to be there (Participant 5, age 38) .we don’t play like that anymore, so if we’ve mucked around with her, we wash hands and, yeah, I don’t want to risk it (Participant 6, 31).
Personal products & clothing . . .[I] use soap free washes, wear loose clothing, obviously no nylon underwear or anything like that (Participant 3, age 39). I try not to use fabric softeners or soaps, the toilet paper that I use is hypoallergenic. And so I try not to wear tight clothes or sweaty undies or anything (Participant 30, age 31).
Improved health and wellbeing . . .I’m going into a really raw diet so getting rid of all the sugar from my diet and looking into what they pump into produce. So I have really changed my diet since last November (Participant 32, age 43) .I used to eat rubbish food like just, like I’ll live on noodles and things that aren’t really healthy. So I make sure I go shopping every three days [now] and I get fruits and vegetables and I make sure that you know, everything is healthy. (Participant 5, age 38).
