Model illustrating how glutathionylation of DnaK provides a bridge between oxidative stress and the heat shock response. Under non-stress conditions, DnaK binds to the heat shock transcription factor σ32 and targets it for degradation by the protease FtsH. Under stress conditions, σ32 is released from DnaK and induces transcription of heat shock-related genes. Under oxidative stress conditions, glutathionylation (GS) of DnaK may contribute to release of σ32.
