New STI variable included new HIV infection (participant reporting a negative HIV test result within the 6 months prior to the baseline visit), recent syphilis (an RPR titer of ≥1:16 confirmed with TPPA) and rectal Neisseria gonorrhea and Chlamydia trachomatis infections (diagnosed by nucleic acid amplification tests of self-collected rectal swabs).
