Schematic of the preparation of platelet-rich plasma (PRP), platelet lysate (PL) and platelet-rich fibrin (PRF) for tissue engineering applications (schematic is not to scale). PRP and PL may be used as autologous alternatives to recombinant human growth factors in a traditional tissue engineering triad, whereas PRF offers the potential to bridge the gap between biomaterials and signals.
