FIGURE 4

Involvement of noradrenergic system in the antidepressant-like activity of α-asarone. Effect of pre-treatment of mice with (A) AMPT (100 mg/kg, i.p., a catecholamine synthesis inhibitor) or (B) prazosin (1 mg/kg, i.p., an α1-adrenoceptor antagonist) or (C) yohimbine (1 mg/kg, i.p., an α2-adrenoceptor antagonist) on α-asarone (20 mg/kg, i.p.)- induced anti-immobility in the TST. Values are expressed as mean ± SEM (n = 8). The immobility time was analyzed using two-way ANOVA followed by post hoc Bonferroni test. ∗∗p < 0.01, and ∗∗∗p < 0.001 as compared with the vehicle group. ##p < 0.01 as compared with α-asarone (20 mg/kg, i.p.) per se, ###p < 0.001 as compared with the group treated with α-asarone (20 mg/kg, i.p.) or bupropion (20 mg/kg, i.p.) per se.
