(A) Representative images of microvessel formation from GFP-transduced HUVECs and hCB-EPCs (EPCs) in 4:1, 1:1, and 1:4 co-culture with SMCs (not visible) during the first 2 weeks of culture. Images were taken within a 50-μm depth from the gel surface. Scale bar equals 250 μm. (B) Quantification for differences in total tubule length, branch points, and average tubule thickness in microvessels formed by varying co-culture ratios and use of EPCs or HUVECs at days 7 and 14 of culture. Conditions not connected by the same letter are significantly different. n=4–5 images analyzed per condition from a minimum of 2 separate experiments. Image area analyzed is 2.4 mm2.
