Chemotactic behaviors mediated by prototype interface 2 mutants. Strain UU2683 [Δ(cheAW) Δ(tar, tap, trg, aer)] carrying a wild type or mutant pPM25 plasmid was tested for chemotactic ability on tryptone soft agar. Plates were imaged after 7 h of incubation at 32.5 °C. The growth rings at the colony perimeters form through chemotactic responses to serine. (The serine receptor Tsr is the sole chemoreceptor in UU2683.) The vector control is UU2683 carrying plasmid pKG116.
