The amino acids are shown by one-letter codes. Gaps were introduced to maximize the similarity. The zinc finger domain between aa 29 and 73 in Mpp1 is underlined. The solid black circles represent cysteine residues of Zn(II)2Cys6 domain. A line below the alignment was used to mark highly conserved positions. Three characters (asterisk, colon, and period) were used: asterisk, indicates positions that have a single, fully conserved residue; colon, indicates positions that are fully conserved in the “strong” groups; period, indicates positions that are fully conserved in the “weak” groups. The strong and weak groups were determined by ClustalX.
