A typical FSH cell (a) exhibits large irregular bodies densely labeled with gold particles (black arrows) as well as smaller secretory granules (black arrowheads). A typical clump of LH immunogold-labeled cells (b,c) shows that the gonadotropins are packed in small oval secretory granules. A higher magnification of the boxed area in (b) is shown in (c) to provide a clearer view of the immunogold staining pattern.
