Table 1. The composition of the 11 different developmental media.
Medium | Yeast (g l−1) | Oatmeal (g l−1) | Sugar (g l−1) |
---|---|---|---|
Control | 60 | 30 | 40 |
Medium 1 | 10.6 | 0 | 0 |
Medium 2 | 9.4 | 0 | 0 |
Medium 3 | 8.3 | 0 | 0 |
Medium 4 | 7.1 | 0 | 0 |
Medium 5 | 6.0 | 0 | 0 |
Medium 6 | 4.9 | 0 | 0 |
Medium 7 | 3.7 | 0 | 0 |
Medium 8 | 2.6 | 0 | 0 |
Medium 9 | 1.4 | 0 | 0 |
Medium 10 | 0.3 | 0 | 0 |
All media contained the same amounts of agar (16 g l−1), nipagin (12 ml l−1) and acetic acid (1.2 ml l−1). The control medium is used in Drosophila experiments as an ad libitum food source, and therefore contains much more nutrition than needed for successful development.
