Hsp90α and Hsp90β together operate a tissue repair mechanism. Schematically, when tissue is damaged, acute hypoxia triggers cells in the wound edge to secrete Hsp90α. Intracellular Hsp90β stabilizes LRP-1 and the secreted Hsp90α binds and signals through the LRP-1 receptor to promote cell migration and wound healing.
