Inhibitory effect of SPR on SM activation of gene expression is independent of mineralocorticoid receptor antagonist activity. The ORF59-GFP reporter cell line was either mock-treated (–) or treated with dox (+) to induce SM expression, which is required for GFP expression. The induced cells were also treated with either DMSO vehicle (0) or various concentrations of SPR (S) or the mineralocorticoid receptor antagonist EPR (E), and cells were examined for GFP expression by fluorescence microscopy 24 h after treatment.
