Neurally adjusted ventilatory assist. Tracings of ventilator pressure (PVent), flow, tidal volume (VT) and diaphragmatic electrical activity (EADiaphragm) from a premature undergoing NAVA. The ventilator pressure is proportional to the magnitude of the electrical activity of the diaphragm during each inspiration. Note the absence of support during a breathing pause. A longer pause would require a backup rate of ventilator cycles.
