Figure 6

Generation of infectious Dengue virus by platelets. Fresh platelets (5 × 105/mL) were incubated with DENV2 (5 × 106 virus particles/mL) for 1 hour. After washing 3 times to remove unbound virus, the pellets were resuspended in serum-free M199 without (closed squares) or with cycloheximide (1 mM, open squares) and cultured at 25°C or 37°C. Infectious virus was quantified by standard plaque assays. Data represent average of 3 separate experiments done in triplicate. pfu, plaque-forming unit. Time = 0 hours represents platelet-bound virus. n = 3, ±standard error of the mean.
